As a GP, I was taught to treat the physical problems and to refer the psychological ones. If only it were that easy! I am sure I’m not the only one who found that the psychological permeated every interaction. I meant well but I would prescribe treatment which was ignored; I would suggest solutions and find myself engaged in argument.
Over the years, I have developed some skills in managing these issues. I’m not an expert but I have found when presenting my workshops that other clinicians also find these tips valuable.
